Lake Naivasha, Lake Nakuru, and Masai Mara are iconic tourist destinations in Kenya, each offering a unique experience. Lake Naivasha is a serene freshwater lake known for its scenic beauty and boat safaris among hippos and vibrant birdlife. Lake Nakuru, located in a national park, is famous for its flamingo-filled shores and rhino sanctuary. Masai Mara, Kenya’s premier wildlife reserve, is world-renowned for the Great Migration, abundant big cat sightings, and the rich culture of the Maasai people. Together, these destinations offer an unforgettable blend of nature, wildlife, and cultural adventure.
NAIROBI – LAKE ELEMENTAITA | You will be met at the airport to begin the 3-hour 40-minute journey to Lake Elementaita with a packed lunch (KFC burger & cola). En route, stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint. Upon arrival, check in at the lodge. Dinner and overnight stay at Sentrim Elementaita Lodge. Part of the Great Rift Valley, Lake Naivasha is a truly astonishing example of aquatic beauty. It is one of the most famous freshwater lakes in Kenya, known for its jaw-droppingly gorgeous scenery. Hugged by grassy banks and dotted with cacti and sand olive trees, the Rift Valley’s highest lake (at 1,884 meters above sea level) stretches out like a vast, sunlit sea. Lake Naivasha is relatively shallow, with a depth of just five meters, and is largely dependent on rainfall, meaning its dimensions can vary with climate changes. Ornithologists frequently visit Naivasha for the incredible variety of fish-eating birds it attracts — including fish eagles, herons, kingfishers, ospreys, and black crakes, among others Enjoy a boat ride to observe hippos in the water. Around the lake’s edge, you can also spot some of the mammals that emerge from the surrounding landscape.
LAKE ELEMENTAITA / LAKE NAKURU | Early breakfast. Drive to Lake Nakuru for a full-day game drive with a packed lunch. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay at Lake Elementaita Sentrim Lodge Lake Nakuru National Park, situated at an altitude of 4,000 to 5,767 feet above sea level, spans 188 square kilometres of diverse landscapes. The park features a variety of ecosystems, including lake waters, woodlands, bush grasslands, and rocky ridges, making it a haven for wildlife and nature enthusiasts. The park is famous for its vibrant birdlife, especially the lesser flamingo, and is home to over 400 bird species. It is also one of the few places where you can spot the endangered white rhino. Other wildlife found here includes lions, leopards, zebras, gazelles, elands, giraffes, and hyraxes, offering visitors a rich and rewarding safari experience.
LAKE NAIVASHA – MASAI MARA | After breakfast, check out and proceed for a boat ride on Lake Naivasha to see hippos, waterbirds, and the breathtaking scenery. After that, drive for approximately 5 hours to the Masai Mara. Arrive and check in at the lodge in time for dinner. Overnight stay at AA Mara Lodge. The Masai Mara Game Reserve, often referred to simply as “The Mara” — a Masai word meaning “mottled, ” in reference to its patchy landscape — covers 1,510 sq km (580 sq miles) and lies at an altitude of 1,500 to 2,170 meters above sea level. The terrain is primarily grassland and riverine forest, dotted with distinctive acacia trees. Located about 270 km from Nairobi, it takes roughly 5–6 hours by road or 40–45 minutes by flight to reach the reserve. The Masai Mara is world-renowned for its rich wildlife. The famous “Big Five” — buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, and rhinoceros — can be spotted year-round. The experience is further enhanced by the “Big Nine, ” which includes cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, and hippos. The Mara also hosts the spectacular ‘Annual Migration, ’ but no matter the season, the resident wildlife never fails to captivate visitors. Adding to the allure are the Masai people — a proud, semi-nomadic, cattle-herding community with a vibrant culture. Divided into various sub-tribes, some of whom inhabit the Mara region, the Masai are a living symbol of the area's rich history and cultural heritage and will surely leave a lasting impression.
